Yale “Lux et Velocitas” Race Recap
The Bowdoin Cycling Club had it’s first competitive outing at Yale on 9-10 April 2011. Granted, we did miss 3/4 of the ECCC (Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference) season, but we still managed to come away with some strong finished. Keep in mind, none of us had been on a bike more than 5-10 times so far this entire year.
Duncan Masland won a prime lap and finished 3rd overall in the men’s C2 criterium.
Alex Fogarty won the women’s intro time trial and would have actually finished 5th in the women’s C time trial. She went home with a polka dot jersey.
Spencer Nietman and Charlie Cubeta both had strong top 10 finishes in the men’s D2 circuit race and strong finishes in the criterium.
Special congrats to Alex Fogarty, Spencer Nietman and Bryce Lednar for racing in their first cycling event.
The team actually won a good handful of Red Bulls, so if you want to give your kidneys a little stir, feel free to ask.
Lastly, the team tradition of binging at Pepe’s for Saturday dinner was an utter success. Special thanks to Donna…the Bowdoin Cycling Club loves you.
Rutgers Scarlet Scurry!
The first ECCC race is at Rutgers this weekend. Being at Bowdoin and more specifically in Maine, there are a few problems facing the Bowdoin Cycling Team and the inaugural ECCC race.
1) It is roughly 400 miles from Brunswick, ME to Jamesburg, NJ.
2) It’s in New Jersey.
3) SAFC does not fund anything outside of New England. We still need that tent.
4) Did you see the roads around Brunswick lately? (picture attached)
5) We’re still waiting on a special shipment from Hans.
6) It’s in New Jersey.
7) Honestly…there’s no good reason other than that we’re broke, haven’t had conditions to ride on the road and we’re too “busy” to leave our bourgeois establishment (aka Bowdoin College).
Now…if this comes off as a bit b**chy, it is and it is not. Our Canadian friends (McGill) have it much worse. Then again, they have poutine and an awesome city to call home. On the flip-side, Fat-Boys will be opening up soon enough.
The superman is overdue for a comeback. Cycling needs more excitement, unpredictability and speed. Also, health insurance companies need more excuses.
All those in favor…
The unofficial anthem of Bowdoin Cycling.
